In addition to the formal application, interested parties must upload a PDF document, 6 pages maximum, to answer the questions below as well as their resume or CV as a separate PDF document. Additional documents can be uploaded as part of the application.

Project Abstract: Please write a paragraph-length abstract describing the project you’re interested in working on.

You: Provide the story on you and your project. Please include:

  • Where did the idea originate?
  • What is the current status of your technology and team?
  • Are any other members of your team applying to this program?
  • Why are you the most qualified to pursue this effort?

Your vision: Describe the technology concept you want to pursue. Please also include:

  • How is your approach new or different than what is currently being done?
  • The potential impact of the technology
  • If you’re successful, what difference will it make?

Why Innovation Crossroads? 

What most attracts you to the Innovation Crossroads program? Which specific people or facilities at ORNL would be particularly valuable in advancing your work?

Your business idea: Briefly describe how you envision making your technology a market reality. Please include:

  • The market you intend to reach, its customers, barriers to entry, sophistication of market, market incumbents, etc.
  • The status of the Intellectual Property that is involved

Any Affiliation with Oak Ridge National Laboratory: Please identify whether you, your family members, or your company have any affiliation with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, its operator UT-Battelle, LLC, the Battelle Memorial Institute, or the University of Tennessee. If there is no affiliation, please indicate that as well.
