Eric Dobson

Managing Member, Sheltowee Angel Network 

Dr. Eric Dobson is the Managing Member of the Sheltowee Angel Network.  As Managing Member for the AIA-affiliated Knoxville, TN Sheltowee Angel Network, LLC, he is a main actor for entrepreneurial mentoring and investor education.  He has led investments in 25 companies totaling over $10,000,000.  He is the founder of the Sheltowee CleanTech Fund I, LLC, an $8.1M clean technology focused investment fund.  And, he is the founder and Managing Partner of the Sheltowee Med Device Fund I, LP, a medical innovation venture capital fund in an offering of up to $25M.  He has a key role in performing deal sourcing, due diligence, and private placement syndication.  Dr. Dobson has expertise in technology-related entrepreneurship, startup financing, business planning, and intellectual property licensing.  As an entrepreneur himself, Dr. Dobson has raised over $12 million from angel and venture capital groups.  With 25 years’ experience in both government and private sectors, he has an extensive background in information technology, large scale database development, and data mining.  He was founder of Navigational Sciences Corporation deploying RFID technology for commercial shipping and TrakLok Corporation, a transportation security company.  

 

Dr. Dobson lectures at the University of Tennessee in the Haslam School of Business.  He is active as a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts and with Science Olympiad.  Eric Dobson earned his B.A. from the University of Tennessee, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Geography from the University of South Carolina.
