Elemental Composites
Key Innovation
Elemental Composites specializes in the production of nonwoven mats designed for fiber-reinforced composites. Through precise alignment and blending of fibers, the company creates anisotropic nonwoven mats, where fibers are aligned in a single direction to achieve consistent and uniform fiber distribution.
Its manufacturing process is highly versatile, enabling the incorporation of a wide range of reinforcing fibers such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, and natural fibers including bamboo, hemp, wool, banana, and flax, as well as various thermoplastic polymers such as polypropylene, polyamide series, and polyphenylene sulfide.
Elemental Composites’ unique approach allows the use of fibers up to 250 millimeters (10 inches) in length—ten times longer than the 25-millimeter limit of existing nonwoven manufacturing methods. The process can also produce nonwovens up to 1,500 grams per square meter (gsm), compared to approximately 300 gsm in conventional materials. These advancements enable lightweight, durable, and high-performance aligned nonwoven preforms that can achieve equal or superior strength using less material, resulting in both cost and material efficiency.
Target Market
Elemental Composites serves industries that demand lightweight, high-strength, and sustainable composite materials. Target sectors include automotive, marine, infrastructure, wind energy, transportation, sporting goods, and medical equipment.
The company’s technology provides manufacturers with enhanced control over fiber alignment and material performance, addressing key limitations in traditional nonwoven composites. By enabling the use of longer fibers, higher-density mats, and diverse material combinations, Elemental Composites offers cost-effective, high-performance solutions tailored to meet the growing demand for advanced, sustainable composites across multiple markets.
